1. Introduction

I hope you have had a great summer with long days filled with sunshine and smiles. Now it's back to school and back to business. This week already feels like Autumn with a chill in the air in the morning - I have even changed the Summer duvet to the Autumn one this week.

If we live more with the seasons, we can look forward to harvesting what we have reaped earlier in the year, whatever that may be. A time for gathering in and preparing for winter which is a time of rest. Buy and cook local seasonal food as this will help anyone who doesn't like this time of year and take time to walk outside regularly so you can adjust to the changing weather and light. Take Vitamin D daily if you are prone to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) from about the 3rd week in September until about the 3rd week in March (when the days and nights are equal called the equinox through the shortest day in December and back to the next equinox).

If you are planning to decorate this season as we are, then look at the Go M.A.D. below for some tips on how to reduce your impact on the environment. Without advertising, B&Q have plenty of low VOC paint and most of their wood is from well managed forests - so do check your local DIY supplier.

Hope you have a excellent Autumn.

2. News

We have written to SMg and we will probably be doing a leaflet inclusion with renewal slips starting later this year running through the whole of the year. A draft leaflet has gone to our contact in the SMg office and we will arrange a print run on recycled paper when we receive confirmation. The site still remains prominent on the internet with many visitors to the site and shop. If you haven't looked lately, please do on www.therapypages.com.

Donate your leftover paint to www.communityrepaint.org.uk. Your local Council or Citizen's Advice Bureau may know of a local scheme.

Check the labels and avoid solvent based paints and look for the low VOC label. VOC's are volatile organic compounds which can harm the environment.

Look for the FSC symbol on any wood products and ask if you are not sure. The Forest Stewardship Council ensure new trees are planted for every felled log and also do not source from rainforests.

5. Recipe - Pumpkin Soup for October

Even if you do not celebrate Halloween, Pumpkin soup is a delicious spicy soup that warms you right through on the colder evenings. I always use the insides of the pumpkin I do for the window on Halloween rather than throw it away.

Pumpkin - peeled, seeded and the fibres removed
Water to boil the pumpkin flesh
Seasoning
Optional - onions, garlic or any other flavour you wish

Optional - fry onions and garlic in olive oil lightly.
Boil the pumpkin flesh in enough water to cover until you can push a fork through easily.
Season and let cool, then blend.

If you have a large pumpkin, then cook, cool, blend and freeze the extra soup for another day while the pumpkin flesh is nice and fresh.
