1. Introduction

We had an excellent halloween pumpkin soup and dressed up with the children who came round trick
or treating. We even followed tradition and laid a spare place at the table to acknowledge those who we have lost. Now it's that time of year to enjoy stews and casseroles and wrap up warm. Find a pub with an open fire and dream or have pyjamas days on your days off – what a lovely time of year. We have had such a beautiful autumn with so much colour and did you stay up and watch the lunar eclipse? It was interesting as well as cold! Hot chocolate all round that evening.

It's that time of year again!
In order to reduce, reuse and recycle, and to reduce stress and financial burdens, do less this Christmas. Give yourself permission to spend less time doing what you don't want to do and more time doing what you do like. The guilt will not kill you and it will pass with logical explanation and time doing more enjoyable things. Some examples: send less cards, buy less presents, make more presents, spend more time and energy with those who matter the most and get the true message of Christmas spirit back.

Have an enjoyable winter – see you in the New Year.

2. News

SMg will be sending out therapypages leaflets in the new year with all insurance renewals and will be throughout the year of 2004. We are also currently checking the site, the links and associations and making sure that we are giving the best service we can. We have plenty to offer and have plenty of visitors, so all is well.

3. Go M.A.D. from Go M.A.D. which is edited and reviewed by www.theecologist.org

For healthy skin, drink plenty of water and avoid expensive, synthetic skin care products with lots of packaging.

Also, try natural scents, rather than synthetic perfumes that are not only expensive, but have lots of packaging too. Experiment with aromatherapy oils that are concentrated and can be found in health food shops and chemists. Many will influence your mood, so you could try good old lavender to calm you down and make you smell like a summer garden.

4. Book Review - So Each May Learn – Harvey F Silver, Richard W Strong, Matthew J Perini

ISBN: 0871203871

Anyone who know anyone who is learning or teaching would do well to take a look at this book. Covering the different types of intelligences and styles of learning, together with simple tests to find your preferences, this is a helpful guide to inclusive learning. This could help parents with their children's homework as well as get the best out of an adult education class.

By the way, it's the only book I've had a chance to read! Next newsletter I'll have more variety to choose from for the review I expect.

5. Recipe - bung it in stew – quick and easy using seasonal veg

Go to your local farm shop, farmers market or grocers and stock up on all the root vegetables you like.
Boil them with a combination of pulses, grains, rice or just some simple seasoning. Experiment until you find what you like – try not to be put off stew if you don't like one ingredient.

Serve with bread, garlic bread, dumplings, mashed potato, jacket potato or any combination your imagination can think of
