1. Introduction

We have got the site looking good with lots of visitors and more therapists signing up all the time so we decided a day off was in order. As a treat on a home visit while on a contract working abroad, I took the other half (and I just had to go - to keep him company you see) to Elemis Day Spa in London. We went in a Moroccan style steam room called a Rasul with coloured mud that was rubbed on specific parts of the body to stimulate or protect the chakras (see below) We then had a wonderful well being massage each on heated therapy beds in beautiful rooms. Well worth the treat but not a weekly event unless you have lots of spare cash. Their bath sachets are fab too.

Christmas - Urghh (Sorry we don't do Christmas but we do know it still exists for many)
One fifth more waste is produced around this time. Start planning what you can do to reduce what you buy, use and if possible receive at this time of year. Use string or coloured wool to wrap presents and that way the paper and ties can be reused. This is an excellent scheme within friends and family members to all participate in.

3. Ever Wondered?

What do you do with the plastic wrappers that catalogues and brochures come in? Well, send them to the address below (please no carrier bags) and they will recycle them for you. I have an addressed envelope next to my desk and keep filling it up and send it when it's full. The envelope is so light it only costs 19p and my office bin is a lot emptier.

4. Review of Therapy - Indian Head Massage

Rubbing it better is perhaps the oldest technique of all times, we practice it almost subconsciously, how many times have you "rubbed it better" when a child has hurt themselves.

Massage is the mainstream of a lot of therapies and Indian Head Massage is amongst the oldest of these. Taken from Ayurveda, the Indian women have for centuries used the massage technique for the benefit of health. They use oils in conjunction with the massage technique to help maintain their hair in such good condition but the real benefit is to the head, scalp and shoulders and is felt in the form of the relaxation it produces.

#Ayurveda is the ancient holistic (whole body) system used across India and includes diet, yoga, breathing, herbs and massage to restore a healthy balance between mind, body and spirit.

Indian Head Massage also increases the flow of blood to the area being massaged that increases vitality and is said to help to maintain a youthful appearance. Ghandi had a daily massage that he swore helped him to focus clearly on his projects, and he looked quite good for his age didn't he?

The practitioner stands behind the client and uses the hands to massage the various areas of the head neck and shoulders, the client does not have to disrobe but if oil is used it is advisable to cover clothing. Various oils can be used but a favourite is lavender because of its calming influence.

5. Autumn

Autumn and spring are a good time to detox. There are plenty of good books and preparations available to help you. Keep it simple and that way you can stick to it.
Avoid an excess of anything.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.
A week to ten days is a good length of time.
Eat regular, sensible meals with no in between snacking.
Eat breakfast and try not to eat after 7pm.

Try a book such as Detox Yourself by Jane Scrivner or juicing - see last newsletter for details.

I find fasting too hard so I just eat sensibly and regularly and avoid sweet and fatty things for the time. I supplement it with something like Pure Plan by Ortis a simple cleansing drink (available at health food shops) added to water each day. Try to have a massage or cleansing bath to stimulate your lymphatic system and make time to relax and rest while your body is working hard to eliminate toxins.

6. Marketing Tips

Appointment advertisment with all your details on. Even use your business cards (so no extra cost), this will mean they have your details on hand if anyone wants them.

Simple but effective.

7. Next News Letter due January 2003

A time to make goals and release what is old and not desired. Autumn is a time of reflection and winter a time to rest. Live with nature and look at the trees around you for inspiration. Keep perspective at this crazy time of year, Christmas is a Christian celebration not a time to spend time and money agonising and getting stressed. If you must celebrate it, do it you way - with common sense and lots of time to relax and rest.

Happy holidays - think of us in our pyjamas under a duvet for the entire duration - not cooking, cleaning or running around like mad things!
