Data Protection Agency - information
Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis - compared.

Hello there,
The launch of www.therapypages.com last month has been a real success. Early indications show this sound idea has great potential. The timing could not be better either. The web-site has had hundreds of hits and therapists are being added steadily. I am pleased to be involved in offering this service as the world wide web is so big, it is difficult to retrieve information, especially if you do not know what you are looking for! Within 3 clicks, complementary therapists in your area can be located. As this site is still an acorn, please try again if you cannot find a therapist near you. They are coming.

We at therapypages.com are so busy that we have enlisted the help of friends and even Rea (see below) has been helping.

Watch this space, therapypages.com and its associate web-sites are going to be an enormous success. Love and light, Tara.

Here are a few articles to get the newsletter started. Any news or interesting information - send to click here and we will try to include it in the next newsletter. Each newsletter will be due on 15th each month, get any information to me by e-mail or snail-mail by the end of the previous month. Next newsletter is due on 15th April 2000, copy date 31st March 2000.

The Data Protection Act

Many therapists keep notes and although the 1980 act stipulated that any records held on computer must be registered with the Data Protection Agency, the act has now been amended to include all written records. Any details that are kept which can be used to recognise a person are included by this act. Contact the Data Protection Agency on telephone number: 01625 545740 or visit their web site at www.dataprotection.gov.uk/dprhome.htm for further information. Registration on-line was quoted at £35 per year for a sole trader.

Hypnosis, hypnotherapy and stage-hypnosis.
Written for Kent Connexions, 1999.

These terms are often confused, so here is a explanation for everyone to understand.

Hypnosis is a dream-like state that we all experience everyday. Sometimes we find ourselves back at home without quite remembering all of the journey. This is a natural state of hypnosis or day-dreaming.

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in a therapeutic setting. The theory behind hypnotherapy is that behaviour is led by beliefs that are 'out-of-awareness'. That is, in our unconscious mind. Using various relaxation techniques, a hypnotic state can be induced so that beliefs and experiences can be accessed ready for change. This therapy is safe to use and the client never loses control. The therapist should be qualified with insurance, preferably with experience of your particular problem.

Stage-hypnosis works on the assumption that about 10% of the population can be very easily hypnotised. The stage-hypnotist will carry out exercises on the audience to see who are the most 'receptive'. There is no trickery or deceit (usually). These shows merely work on peoples' expectations to either see or be seen doing silly things on a stage.
