A note from Tara Shilling, the founder

Another great month, we are all working very hard to keep up with ourselves! We have 5 network agents around the country working locally on our behalf as well as the 'head office' lot here. Therapypages leaflets are turning up all over the place.

As we have been so busy, credit card facilities are still on their way, hopefully by next month, they will be up and running, which will make life a lot easier to subscribe over the web and we will also be offering complementary therapy related goods.

Look out for the recommendation this month - they are excellent cards for everyone, not just children! The lovely Steve has reviewed 3 web magazines, hope you find this useful too as well as a recipe - if you want to share your recipes, e-mail them to me by clicking here.

Next newsletter is due on 15th July 2000.
Love and light, Tara.

Associations

Associations are starting to come on board and you will notice that they are appearing in with the therapy entries with web-links, information and details on how to train as a therapist. The information will also appear in its own association page soon.

Children's Self Esteem cards by Suzanne E Harrill, M.Ed.

These cards can be placed in a bowl and put in your home or office. Pick one up each day and try to act on the statement. These are excellent for adults and children alike.

Eg. I like Myself
Note on back of card - It is important to be your own best friend. You have to live with yourself all the time. Why not get to like who you are? It makes life easier.

Now there's some good advice! Only approximately £6.99.

Net Magazine Reviews

There are many magazines on the shelf for computing, but many of them are just there for advertising. This month we have taken a selection of Internet magazines and reviewed them for you, taking into consideration all levels of ability.

The magazines under review are;

.net

A nicely presented magazine with relevant adverts that will help you decide how to get on the Web. They have good reviews to help you identify good web site design, technical pages for those of you wanting to know how it's done as well as loads of helpful hints. This magazine is issued monthly and comes with a free CD every month which has so far come with some very useful tools such as Virus checker, web tools and more (although I'm still waiting for a response from the Virus company to be able to use the software!!). Plenty of ideas and the latest news on Internet technology. Presentation is pleasing to the eye and the language is not geeky.

At £2.99 per month this was one of the best out of the 3 reviewed. Their subscriptions department are a bit slow though.

thenet

A magazine that looks like it's aimed at teenagers. A fair amount of the articles are all over the place and there are far too many irrelevant adverts for those of you looking to get on the Net. The upside is that the magazine does offer some really useful help to those of you new to the whole thing, for example April's copy had a wonderful easy guide to browsing and using E-mail (providing you were using Microsoft products). If you want to visit web sites or see what other peoples pages look like then this magazine would be for you, but most of us do that through search engines and look at sites which are related to the business we are in.

For those of you after the real nitty gritty of Internet design and the hard stuff will be disappointed by this magazine, and don't expect to get any useful tools with this one either.

This magazine is also monthly and costs £2.50 which to me seems a little too pricey for the amount of adverts contained with in the pages.

internet magazine

Our last one to review. This one was also a very well presented magazine and came very close in my opinion to the .net magazine and would be difficult to choose between the 2, except that when I purchased this one the techie stuff was on Microsoft code not generic!!!

Lots of good web site reviews for those of you interested in pinching ideas from others, good technical stuff for those of you who want to get involved in the really deep stuff, and adverts relevant with the business of getting you on the Internet. Good hints and tips through out the magazine regarding good design principals. Interviews and reviews with people in the industry, latest technology and gadgets. All round a very good magazine and comes with a CD-ROM every month containing useful tools to create and maintain your web pages.

£3.10 per month is a fair price for the content. Like .net this magazine also is a good vantage point for promoting your web site.

Recipe for this month

Home-made Italian Style Oil

You will need:

Use organic if you can

Pick off the fresh basil or use pre-cut, about a loose handful for 1litre, less for smaller quantities of oil and wash.

Wash, chop and cut pepper and chillies in slivers so that they will fit into the bottle top, do not use the seeds, 2 whole chillies and 1 pepper for 1 litre, less if lesser quantity of oil.

Cut the top and bottom off the garlic, do not peel and put a cocktail stick through 2 or 3 cloves of garlic for 1 litre, less if lesser quantity of oil - Experiment with your taste, most herbs will make an aromatic oil, take out any of the ingredients above and add your own blend.

Take out plastic pourer from olive oil, pour out enough oil so that you can get all the ingredients in. Add all ingredients, top up with oil if necessary so that all the ingredients are covered with oil. Put pourer back in the bottle and leave for a week or so. You can leave the ingredients in the bottle if you keep topping up the oil so that it covers the ingredients. Otherwise, take out the ingredients once the smell of the oil is right for you.

  1. Use as a healthy salad dressing
  2. Use to cook savoury food with
  3. Use when cooking food such as home-made pizza instead of butter/marg to grease the tin
  4. Add to the recipe below for a tasty snack

Try this - ciabatta loaf (you buy these part-baked, so pop in oven for 10 or so minutes in medium oven to crisp), add any type of salad, mascapone cheese or cream cheese (optional) and sprinkle the flavoured oil in the loaf. Wonderful!
